David Ngog admits he is looking forward to getting back to first-team football after recovering from a back injury that has troubled him all summer.

Ngog completed 90 minutes for John Henry's Development Squad as Wanderers secured a 2-0 win at West Ham United on Tuesday night, adding to the 45 minutes he played against Norwich City a week earlier.

The 23-year-old featured just twice for Bolton in pre-season, with a recurrence of his back injury forcing him off the field in a friendly at Portsmouth last month.

Having come through recent games for the Development Squad, the former Liverpool forward feels refreshed and ready to make his impact on the Championship.

"It's been really enjoyable to go back on the pitch," Ngog told the club's official website. "I'm really looking forward to the new season now.

"I've had a back injury which I got when I returned for pre-season. It has kept me out for quite a few weeks but I've worked really well with the physio, staff and chiropractor, and now I'm feeling fit.

"With this kind of injury I have had to be careful. Whatever exercise you do, you use your back, whether it be running or any sessions in the gym.

"I tried to play (in pre-season) because sometimes when you are injured you can get through it, but the pain was too sharp and I took the decision to stop playing and to try and get myself 100 percent fit.

"For footballers, injuries are one of the worst things that can happen. It's difficult because you want to be out there on the pitch and playing with the team.

"Now I am back in full training with the first team, I'm getting closer to 100 percent and getting my touch and sharpness back. If I get a chance to help the team, I will look to take it."
