Bolton physio Andy Mitchell has flown to the United States, in the hope of receiving good news that Stuart Holden could soon make his return from injury.

Holden has played just one game for Wanderers since March of last year, when he was stretchered off the field at Old Trafford following a heavy collision with Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

The 27-year-old has been training in Delaware for the last few months with staff from the United States international setup and he is due to meet with knee specialists later this week, to determine a date for a possible return to England.

Wanderers are holding on to hope that Holden could be in the club colours by the end of October, but the player will not be rushed back to action with fears over his long-term fitness remaining the priority.
