Josh Vela will undergo a scan on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury he sustained during Bolton's 2-1 defeat at Crawley Town on Tuesday night.

Vela played just three minutes in his first senior start for the club, after being forced off the field as a result of an innocuous looking challenge from Crawley's Nicky Adams.

On closer inspection, the Wanderers midfielder appeared to get his studs stuck in the turf, twisting his knee and ankle in the process.

Bolton would later take the lead at the Broadfield Stadium courtesy of Benik Afobe's first competitive strike for the club, but late goals from Billy Clarke and Nicky Ajose sent the League One side into the next round of the Capital One Cup at Wanderers' expense.
