Bolton players past and present have taken to social networking website Twitter to leave their tributes to Fabrice Muamba, who retired from professional football on Wednesday.

Muamba decided to hang up his boots after taking medical advice from heart specialists in Belgium last week. The news came just short of five months after the Wanderers midfielder collapsed as a result of a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur.

Players such as Stuart Holden, Ricardo Gardner and Ivan Campo were among those who left messages of support for the 24-year-old, all of which can be found below:

Muamba's fiancée, Shauna, also posted a message of thanks and echoed the words of many who are grateful that the player's life remains intact.
