Wigan Athletic have beaten off competition from Bolton to secure the services of Arsenal midfielder Ryo Miyaichi on a season-long loan deal.

Miyaichi spent the second half of last season on loan at the Reebok Stadium and Wanderers boss Owen Coyle was keen to complete another deal for the Japan international, but Gunners manager Arsene Wenger wanted the player to gain further Premier League experience.

The 19-year-old made a positive start to his spell with the Trotters, scoring in an FA Cup tie at Millwall in just his second game for the club, but he struggled for consistency and fitness as Coyle's side ended the season with relegation to the Championship.
