Bolton have been rocked by the news that David Wheater has been ruled out for nine months after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament.

Wheater suffered the injury late in the first half of Sunday's 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion and had to be replaced by Zat Knight at the start of the second period.

The injury means Knight is likely to start alongside Tim Ream in next weekend's game at Stoke City, with Dedryck Boyata the only other recognised senior central defender available.
