Lee Chung-Yong could be training with the Bolton first-team as early as next week, according to Wanderers boss Owen Coyle.

Chung-Yong has missed the entire season after suffering a double leg fracture in a pre-season friendly against Newport County last July.

After recovering and rehabilitating from the injury in his native South Korea, the 23-year-old returned to England late last year and has continued to recover from the injury ever since.

Coyle is hopeful Chung-Yong can train with the reserve squad this week and, should he avoid any setbacks, join the first team squad next week.

"Chungy is making significant progress," Coyle told the club's official website.

"He continues to train well on the medical side and we're hoping that he'll be able to train with the reserves on Friday and Saturday.

"If he comes through that without any reaction then hopefully he can join in with the first team next week and step-up his training from there.

"We'd love to have him involved before the end of the season, but we've got to be careful not to do anything detrimental to his long-term future.

"We gave him a bit of time off last summer and I have to say, as a football lover, I was so excited to see him play. There was no doubt about it, he was going to be one of the outstanding players in the Barclays Premier League this season. Sadly, that was taken away from him.

"But, he's continued to work hard and has done well to get to the level he is at now. There's no about it, he's going to be a very special player."
