Fabrice Muamba is set to be transferred to the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle before the end of the week.
Muamba has been in the intensive care unit at the London Chest Hospital since suffering a cardiac arrest on March 17 during an FA Cup tie between Tottenham Hotspur and Bolton Wanderers.
The match at White Hart Lane was abandoned while medical staff rushed to the aid of the then 23-year-old, who turned 24 last week.
Muamba's heart stopped beating for 78 minutes and ambulance staff administered 15 defibrillator shocks before he started to respond to treatment.
His rate of recovery has surprised many and he is expected to arrive in Cheadle before the weekend, where he could stay in hospital for another week, prior to going home.
