Bolton boss Owen Coyle has confirmed Stuart Holden will not make his first-team return this season.

Holden has been restricted to just one appearance for Wanderers this term, a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Carling Cup last September.

That match at Villa Park signalled the end of a six month rehabilitation schedule for the 26-year-old, who would later discover he had suffered cartilage damage that would see him miss the rest of the campaign.

The United States international returned to Bolton's Euxton training base earlier this week, but Coyle has confirmed he will not be available between now and the end of the season.

"We let Stuart go to the US to do a lot of his rehab over there," Coyle told the club's official website.

"He is such a bubbly and infectious character and so it's certainly good to have players like that in your group. Stuart certainly adds to what we have got in terms of team spirit, which is great.

"The biggest single thing is that we want him back on the pitch wearing the Bolton strip because he is such an influential player for us and we have missed him, but he won't be fit for this season."
