Tamir Cohen spoken of his friendship with Fabrice Muamba and hopes he continues to recover from the cardiac arrest he suffered last weekend.

Muamba collapsed to the ground after 41 minutes of Bolton's FA Cup sixth round tie at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, with the emergency of the situation becoming clear almost immediately.

The 23-year-old has shown superb signs of recovery to date and Cohen, who played for Wanderers between 2008 and 2011 admits Muamba was one of the key figures in helping him come to terms with the death of his father, Avi, in December 2010.

"I played with Fabrice for three years at Bolton and he is one of the most wonderful guys you could ever meet," Cohen told The Jewish Chronicle.

"We're very good friends and I'm stunned by what happened. I'm praying for him and hoping that he will recover as quickly as possible.

"I'm in contact all the time with former teammates in England and I received a text message saying that Fabrice is improving and speaking. I just hope there will be no lasting damage to the brain.

"It was Muamba together with Johan Elmander who came to me with the idea that I should have a shirt made with a picture of my father on it. They suggested I should wear it under my Bolton shirt and if I scored I could take off my shirt and dedicate the goal to my father."

Cohen scored the winning goal as Bolton secured a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in April of last year. He celebrated by revealing the t-shirt of his late father.
