Macclesfield Town boss Gary Simpson has praised Mark Connolly for the impact he has made as Moss Rose.

Connolly joined the League Two strugglers last month and has made five appearances for the Silkmen, all of which have ended in draws.

Macc had lost eight consecutive league games prior to Connolly's signing and Town boss Simpson has praised the attitude and performances of the 20-year-old, who joined Bolton in a £1million move from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2009.

"He just needed a bit of league football I suppose," Simpson said.

"He's a whole-hearted player with great attributes and he's done very well for us. He's filled in and plugged some holes.

"At one stage we only had two defenders fit so we needed to get someone in and he was up for the task. He's acquitted himself very well."
