Bolton boss Owen Coyle was disappointed with his team's second half performance as they lost 3-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

After going in goalless at the break, Wanderers fell behind within three minutes of the restart as David Luiz curled a shot beyond the reach of Adam Bogdan.

Didier Drogba doubled the Blues' lead just after the hour, before Frank Lampard sealed the win by adding a third eleven minutes from time.

Coyle felt his side matched Andre Villas-Boas' team throughout the first half but believes the early strike in the second half gave Wanderers an uphill task.

"We knew Chelsea had not been in the best run of form and so we came to Stamford Bridge trying to exploit that, but we didn't perform in the second half to the level we did in the first," Coyle told the club's official website.

"I thought in the first 45 minutes we were terrific. We worked ever so hard, maintained good shape and stifled Chelsea.

"Coming to an elite club, you always know you are in for a tough game and we showed great focus and intensity, and we matched them for large periods. We deserved to go into half-time level pegging.

"It was disappointing to concede so early in the second half, but we were still in the game at 1-0 and carved out a couple of half chances. However, we have spoken in the dressing room and felt we conceded two soft goals.

"We always knew that after playing Chelsea and Manchester City that we'd have played seven of the top eight and five of the top six.

"We know what's in front of us and that we can achieve what we need to do to maintain our Barclays Premier League status.

"We have already shown that we can earn points - we had a good January and that's what we will look to do again as we enter March."
