Bolton captain Kevin Davies has revealed Saturday's trip to Chelsea may come too soon as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Davies suffered medial ligament damage in the early stages of the defeat to Wigan Athletic a fortnight ago and Wanderers boss Owen Coyle had targeted the game at Stamford Bridge for the skipper's return.

The 34-year-old has confirmed his injury is healing but admits he is likely to miss the game against Chelsea.

"This week my knee has felt a lot better but I think this weekend might come too soon," Davies told the club's official website.

"I'm hoping to be back in full training as soon as possible.

"I hurt myself 20 minutes into the Wigan game but I didn't really feel it properly until after the game. In the following days it was really sore but thankfully the scan didn't show any major damage.

"Nobody likes being injured and my rehab over the last week or so has involved plenty of treatment and gym work.

"I've had another scan and it's shown that the fibres are starting to gel together again, so that is encouraging news."
