Wigan Athletic have confirmed 17 supporters have been issued banning orders following incidents at the Reebok Stadium last Saturday.

The disturbances, conducted by spectators predominantly between the ages of 15 and 22, saw a minority of travelling Latics fans setting off a number of flares inside the ground.

The club had only seen three supporters arrested prior to Saturday's game and Jonathan Jackson, Wigan's Chief Executive, admits they have worked with Greater Manchester Police in order to punish those involved in the scenes at the Reebok.

"We were extremely disappointed by the behaviour of a small minority of spectators who tarnished what was a fantastic day for the Club," Jackson told Wigan's official club website.

"We have worked closely with Greater Manchester Police who will be issuing official football banning orders on the majority of those arrested during the game.

"We wish to protect the image of Wigan Athletic as a family Club and do not welcome those who seek to make trouble and endanger the safety of our supporters."
