Bolton are closing in on the transfer of New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream after he was granted a work permit.

Wanderers agreed £2.5million fee with the MLS outfit earlier this month and after striking a deal over the player's personal terms, only red tape stood between the two parties completing a deal.

Trotters boss Owen Coyle, secretary Simon Marland and the club's legal representatives were at a hearing in London on Monday where the 24-year-old is understood to have been granted a work permit.

Ream is expected to sit down with Coyle over the coming days and the transfer should be completed by the end of the week.
