Bolton boss Owen Coyle was full of praise for his players after they recorded a 3-1 victory over Liverpool at the Reebok Stadium.

Goals from Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker gave Wanderers a 2-0 lead inside the opening half hour, only for Craig Bellamy to pull one back for the Reds eight minutes before the break.

Any hopes of a Liverpool comeback were dashed five minutes after the break as Gretar Steinsson volleyed past Jose Reina from close range and Coyle believes his side fully deserved their victory, but insists they must use the result to kickstart their season and push themselves up the Premier League table.

"Coming into the game we had taken seven out of 12 points over the festive period and begun the New Year with a good win over Everton," Coyle told the club's official website.

"We knew if we played to our maximum we could continue to accumulate points, and that is what we did today.

"We need to use this as a springboard and kick on.We know that we can continue to improve and get better and that is what we must strive for.

"I was disappointed with the goal we lost and there is no doubt Liverpool have quality, and sometimes when you play the elite clubs and you have to ride your luck.

"But today I thought we were very worthy winners across the park. We were committed, worked hard and scored three really good goals.

"What was pleasing was the high level of performance and we benefit ted again from tremendous backing from our supporters. It was a second sell-out in our last three home games and it was pleasing to see it all come together today.

"At 2 -1 with over the half of the game still to go, the fans got behind the team and continued to drive them forward. We are appreciative of that consistent backing.

"We now turn our attention to preparing for the FA Cup fourth round tie against Swansea next Saturday."
