With Gary Cahill's transfer to Chelsea finally being confirmed on Monday, Bolton finally appear to be making strides in the January transfer window.

With days 17 and 18 of the window passing by, Wanderers have been ruled out of the race for one player but reports in America suggest a deal has been struck to bring one to the Reebok Stadium.

We start with the news that Bolton are reportedly set to sign Sebastien Le Toux from MLS side Philadelphia Union.

Reports from Fox Sports in the United States suggest Le Toux was training with Owen Coyle's side on Wednesday ahead of a potential move to the Reebok.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Le Toux confirmed on his Twitter account that he was on his way to England, but no further details were given.

The 28-year-old has scored 25 goals in 62 MLS games for the Union and may well have played his last game for the club if the rumours are to be believed.

According to reports in France, Bolton were interested in signing French defender Remi Mareval from Belgian club Zulte Waregem.

However, Wanderers' hopes of signing the former Oldham Athletic defender have disappeared after the player signed a three-and-a-half year contract with KAA Gent.

Meanwhile, Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside confirmed on Tuesday that the club had failed in their attempts to bring Rodrigo Moreno back to England.

Rodrigo spent last season on loan with the Trotters but failed to hold down a regular place in the team.

He returned to Benfica in the summer and a string of impressive performances have led to interest from around Europe for the former Real Madrid forward.

Gartside confirmed he had spoken to Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira regarding a transfer, only to see his approach turned down by the Portuguese club.

"I have tried everything to push through a deal for Rodrigo but the president of Benfica says he is not for sale at any price," Gartside told O Jogo.

The final piece of transfer news today comes from The Daily Mail.

Despite dodging rumours earlier in the week, Owen Coyle is believed to be interested in the signature of Tottenham Hotspur forward Giovani Dos Santos.

Dos Santos is well down the pecking order at White Hart Lane, with the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Rafael van der Vaart, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko ahead of him.

Spurs are unlikely to let the Mexico international leave on loan, but are willing to let the 22-year-old former Barcelona starlet move on for a fee in the region of £8million.

Keep posted to Burnden Aces throughout the day on Thursday as we track the progress of any potential transfers at the Reebok Stadium on Day 19 of the January transfer window.
