Owen Coyle has praised his players after Bolton beat Macclesfield Town 2-0 to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

First half goals from Kevin Davies and Martin Petrov were enough to send the Trotters through and Coyle believes his team were good value for their victory on a freezing cold night at the Reebok Stadium.

"The purpose of this evening was to make sure we progressed to the next round and that's exactly what we did," Coyle told the club's official website.

"In the first half we were terrific and put in a professional performance. We got two goals in front and created a number of chances and if truth be told we should have added to our tally.

"In the second half we took our foot off the gas and when you do that you allow the opposition back into the match. Macclesfield peppered our box with long throws and free-kicks, though Adam Bogdan only had one real save in all of that.

"We rested a number of players tonight, making five changes and of course when you do that you lose some of the fluency, but it was important to give those players game time.

"We had a nearly 9,000 people at the ground on what was a cold January night and I'd like to thank them for that. We took 1,500 to Manchester United on Saturday and we've now got a run of home games to look forward to. The support is very much appreciated."
