Bolton finally concluded their first piece of major business in the January transfer window on Monday, with Gary Cahill sealing his switch to Chelsea.

Wanderers accepted an offer from the Blues on December 30th and until the end of last week, talks over the deal appeared to be stalling.

However, after finally agreeing on personal terms and passing a medical at the weekend, Cahill has put pen to paper at Stamford Bridge and completed the transfer.

The official figure has been left undisclosed, but it is thought Bolton will receive a fee of around £7million for the 26-year-old, who played 147 times for the club since moving from Aston Villa for £5million in January 2008.

New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream has been identified as a potential replacement for Cahill, with Wanderers understood to have agreed a fee of around £2.5million for the USA international.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Trotters boss Owen Coyle admitted he is hopeful of completing a deal for the 24-year-old before the game with Liverpool this coming Saturday.

"He is a player that we would love to bring to the football club and hopefully in the next few days that can come to fruition," Coyle said.

According to reports, Bolton are waiting on a work permit for Ream and are confident of completing all the necessary paper work by the end of the week.

While Coyle has confirmed he is close to bringing Ream to the Reebok Stadium, he has denied speculation linking him with a move for Tottenham Hotspur forward Giovani Dos Santos.

Mirror Football reported on Sunday evening that Wanderers were preparing a £4million bid for the former Barcelona youngster. Coyle, however, has moved to cool the speculation by insisting he holds no interest in the 22-year-old.

"We haven't been speaking to the lad," Coyle said. "There are fantastic young players out there in the Premier League and he is certainly one of them, but it is just speculation.

"There is no doubt that he is a top player, but there are many top players out there."

Our final rumour on Day 16 of the January transfer window comes from Sky Sports. According to 'Sky Sports sources', Wanderers are keeping tabs on Leeds United youngster Tom Lees.

Lees has featured in 22 of United's 26 Championship fixtures this season and is primarily used as a central defender, although he can also operate at right back.

After spending last season on loan at Bury, Lees recently signed a new contract which would keep him at Elland Road until the summer of 2015.

A string of consistent performances for the Whites have seen him linked with a move to the Premier League. However, with Leeds boss Simon Grayson expected to demand a high transfer fee for the 21-year-old, Wanderers could well find themselves priced out of a move.
