Despite Bolton being in action at Manchester United on Saturday, it has been an eventful weekend on the Wanderers transfer front.

First of all, late on Friday evening, it emerged that Gary Cahill had been pulled out of the Trotters squad that would travel to Old Trafford as he was making his way to London.

Cahill was pulled out of training at Bolton's Euxton complex on Thursday afternoon to hold talks with Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay, who had made the trip north to meet with the player.

After travelling down south, the 26-year-old successfully completed a medical on Saturday morning and was in the stands to watch Andre Villas-Boas' side gain victory over Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

As personal terms have been agreed and a medical has been completed, the England international is expected to be unveiled as a Chelsea player on Monday morning.

Should a work permit be granted, New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream will fill the void left by Cahill at the Reebok Stadium.

The USA international was at Euxton on Friday, where he successfully completed a medical with Owen Coyle's side.

Ream is expected to complete a deal with around £2.5million, with the 24-year-old reportedly set to earn £20,000. A sharp increase on his current $55,000 annual contract in the States.

Finally, a piece of new speculation to hit the January rumour mill.

Throughout the weekend, Wanderers' Lancashire rivals Wigan Athletic had been linked with a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur forward Giovani Dos Santos.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez had been expected to tie-up a deal for the Mexico international, but as stated in a Mirror Football report, Bolton may be about to hijack the deal.

Dos Santos is well down the pecking order at White Hart Lane and Wanderers may tempt Spurs into selling the 22-year-old with a fee in the region of £4million.

Coyle reportedly wanted to sign the former Barcelona youngster during his time in charge at Burnley and is understood to be keen on bringing him to the Reebok Stadium.
