Marcos Alonso has become the latest victim of the Bolton injury curse after breaking a bone in his foot.

Alonso picked up the injury early in the second half of Wanderers' Carling Cup win over Macclesfield Town on Wednesday night.

Posting on his official Twitter page, Alonso confirmed he is likely to be out of action until the end of October.

"I broke my 5th metatarsal yesterday," Alonso said.

"Having surgery soon and I will be out for about 6-8 weeks. Trying to be positive."

The blow is the latest in a string of injuries for Owen Coyle's side, with Lee Chung-Yong and Tyrone Mears on the road to recovery after both broke a leg in pre-season.
