Bolton play League Two opposition on Wednesday evening as they host Macclesfield Town in the Carling Cup.

The Silkmen recorded a 2-0 victory over Hull City in the previous round and will be hopeful of repeating their success of 2000, when they knocked Sam Allardyce's Wanderers team out of the competition.

Owen Coyle, now manager of the Trotters, could hand a debut to loan signing Tuncay Sanli. The Turkey international has missed the opening two games of the season after problems with a work permit, but is now free to play for the Whites.

Coyle is expected to make a number of changes from Sunday's defeat to Manchester City, with Joe Riley, David Wheater, Marcos Alonso, Mark Davies and Adam Bogdan all likely to start.

Gretar Steinsson picked up a foot injury against City, meaning Riley will start at right-back.

Adam Blakeman, Mark Connolly, Josh Vela and Michael O'Halloran could also feature.

Stuart Holden, Lee Chung-Yong, Tyrone Mears, Sean Davis, Ricardo Gardner and Tom Eaves all join Steinsson on the injury list.

Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson could name an unchanged side from their goalless draw with Bristol Rovers at the weekend, with Waide Fairhurst, Paul Morgan, Colin Daniel on the sidelines.

Vinny Mukendi, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury, will be handed a late fitness test ahead of the game at the Reebok.

Bolton Wanderers: from: Bogdan, Jaaskelainen, Lainton, Alonso, Robinson, Cahill, Knight, Wheater, Connolly, Riley, Muamba, Eagles, Petrov, M Davies, Reo-Coker, Pratley, Vela, Blakeman, Tuncay, K Davies, Klasnic, Blake, Obadeyi, O'Halloran
