West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Joey O'Brien on a free transfer, after he was released by Bolton.

O'Brien had been on trial with the Hammers and impressed boss Sam Allardyce enough to secure a permanent deal with the club.

Speaking above the move, O'Brien admitted he was delighted to join the club, after spending the last month on trial in a bid to prove his fitness.

"Obviously I'm delighted to finally sign because I've been here since the start of pre-season," O'Brien told West Ham's official website.

"It's been a few weeks now and it's gone well. The manager wanted me to sign and as soon as I heard that, there was no real hesitation."

O'Brien becomes West Ham's fourth signing of the summer, following the captures of Kevin Nolan, Abdoulaye Faye and Matt Taylor, all former Wanderers players.

Taylor was on the scoresheet as Allardyce's side ran out 2-0 winners over Real Zaragoza on Saturday afternoon, a game which featured Jlloyd Samuel, who was also released by Bolton at the end of last season.
