Johan Elmander admits he held talks about a new contract at Bolton but they broke down after he rejected an offer late last year.

Elmander will leave the Reebok Stadium when his contract expires at the end of June, with Turkish side Galatasaray his most likely destination.

Despite turning down the opportunity to stay at the club, Elmander has praised Owen Coyle for turning his career around after a disappointing spell under former boss Gary Megson.

"There have been ups and downs since I have been here," Elmander said.

"I have enjoyed it but I've decided I'm playing somewhere else next season.

"To be really honest I didn't get something good from the club, so I didn't have to decide anything.

"We had a talk in November and didn't really hear anything after that. So there was nothing to decide.

"I have to say Owen Coyle is one of the best managers I have ever had and I have really enjoyed working with him.

"I'm going to be a little bit sad because Coyle changed my football career. He helped me find love again for football. I have got lots to thank him for and I've enjoyed my one-and-a-half years with him.

"My first season was difficult because I was injured and tried to chase back every game. The second season I was ready for it but there were other things that didn't suit me.

"You never know what might have happened if Owen Coyle had been here from the start but it would have made the world a little bit easier."
