Bolton boss Owen Coyle expressed his disappointment after his side fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City.

Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko scored the goals as City claimed a place in next season's UEFA Champions League, meaning Wanderers finish 14th in the Premier League table.

Speaking after the game, Coyle believes his team matched the big spending Citizens and could count themselves unfortunate to have suffered defeat.

"In the first half today we were terrific," Coyle told the club's official website.

"Manchester City had Joe Hart to thank for two remarkable saves to deny Kevin (Davies) and Johan (Elmander), but we always accepted that Manchester City were going to be dangerous on the counter-attack.

"To be fair, I don't think Joleon Lescott knew too much about his goal but that slice of luck can sometimes go your way.

"For us, we come out on the wrong side of that fortune. Their second goal was a well-worked move and Edin Dzeko took his goal well.

"We are all disappointed to have finished our campaign at home in this manner because we have shown that when we get to our maximum we can take points off anybody.

"The support and the backing of our fans have been 100 percent and we have appreciated that.

"Everybody who knows me and how driven I am for this football club knows I'm disappointed that we have not achieved the results that we would have wanted in the last few weeks.

"I know what I need and we will be working hard in the close-season to improve the squad for next season.

"The players will now have their summer break and come back refreshed and ready to go again. They know the demands that I put on them and we will be stronger and better and we want to continue the improvements we have made this season."
