Mark Davies will miss the final two games of the season after undergoing surgery on a troublesome ankle injury.

Davies has struggled with injuries since joining Bolton from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2009 and picked up his latest problem in the FA Cup quarter final victory at Birmingham City in March.

The 23-year-old has featured just twice for the Trotters since that day and boss Owen Coyle believes the timing of the surgery will allow the midfielder to return for pre-season.

"Mark Davies had to have an operation on his ankle yesterday (Thursday) which will rule him of action for the rest of the season, albeit there is only just over a week to go," Coyle told the club's official website.

"There had been little bone fragments floating about that were putting pressure on the tendons and that's why he could never really be pain free and get back to the form that he had been showing.

"It was important to address the problem now so that we have him fit and available when we resume pre-season training, and the surgeon was delighted with how it went.

"He has been a huge loss along with Stuart Holden in the midfield area. The injuries have happened and that's the nature of football.

"But the good news is that we will have him back for pre-season because it is important he kicks-on as he is such a talented player."
