Bolton boss Owen Coyle was unhappy with the officials as his side fell to a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

In the build up to the visitor's opening goal, Coyle believes a free-kick should have been awarded to Wanderers for a foul on Lee Chung-Yong.

Referee Kevin Friend failed to award the decision, allowing Sunderland to break and score through Boudewijn Zenden.

Ivan Klasnic equalised with three minutes remaining, before Steve Bruce's side left with all three points when Zat Knight deflected a Sulley Muntari strike into his own net in stoppage time.

Coyle believes decisions went against his side on the day, but admits he was disappointed to leave empty handed after seeing his players waste a number of golden opportunities.

"Given the amount of clear-cut chances we had, I'm slightly disappointed we didn't take anything from the game," Coyle told Sky Sports.

"I think the first goal is clearly a handball, prior to Chung-Yong Lee receiving the ball and then on the back of that, he's clearly fouled on the edge of the box.

"Second half, we've come out and created chance upon chance to get the equaliser, but never took it and eventually scored a great goal late on.

"We obviously pushed on to get the winner but we were caught with the sucker punch which should have been defended better but that's the margins in this league.

"We're obviously disappointed because we've been in terrific form at the Reebok, a marvellous home record and we're disappointed to have lost the game today.

"We all claim we're in the best league in the world, so we look to the best officials but in all due respect I mean, he (the assistant) has not done his job today.

"We just have to pick ourselves up and go again. We certainly had enough clear-cut chances today to win probably two or three matches."
