Reports in Spain suggest Marcos Alonso was at the wheel of a car which crashed and killed a young woman in Madrid on Monday morning.

The woman, believed to be one of five people in the car which crashed into a wall, died in hospital in La Paz after suffering a heart attack and serious brain injuries.

The Bolton defender is thought to have come away from the incident unscathed, while the other three passengers are in hospital recovering from their injuries, with one said to be suffering from serious chest problems.

It is understood Alonso refused a breath test at the scene, claiming he was suffering from an anxiety attack, and he is currently being held in a police cell in the Spanish capital.
