Owen Coyle and Kevin Davies believe Bolton have what it takes to qualify for European football next season.

Wanderers currently lie in seventh place in the Barclays Premier League, but their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Europa League through the channel are slim.

However, victory over Stoke City in the FA Cup semi-finals next month will all but guarantee a third European campaign in seven seasons for the Trotters, an achievement the Bolton boss is ready to turn into reality.

"As a manager you want to push yourselves to the maximum and your players to the maximum and try to get that bit better," Coyle told The People.

"Something like European football should be cherished. Football is still the same game wherever it is played. You just go up a level and deal with better players.

"But you want that because it makes you better. Some of the players here are capable of playing for any club. And I mean any club.

"European football is great goal for any manager. Look at Harry Redknapp, he has been a great manager for years but you can see from his face how he is loving the involvement of Champions League.

"Even at this stage of his career he has probably become a better manager for the experience."

Coyle's statements have been echoed by club captain Davies, who insists the players must not drop their guard if they are to secure European football at the Reebok Stadium next term.

"To be in a situation like this is what we all aimed towards when we reported back for pre-season in July," Davies told the Manchester Evening News.

"We had a couple of years when we put ourselves in contention for the European qualification positions.

"And that ensured there was an exciting end to the season. We want a similar run-in this season.

"Certainly if, at the beginning of the campaign, anybody had offered us the position we are in, then we would definitely have taken it.

"We are in a very promising position and it's crucial we continue to keep performing."
