Bolton forward Danny Ward will spend the next three months playing Championship football after joining Coventry City on loan.

Ward, who signed a new three-year contract at the Reebok Stadium this week, will stay at the Ricoh Arena until 1st January 2011, when it is hoped he will return to Bolton and press for a first-team place.

Speaking about the move, Sky Blues boss Aidy Boothroyd admitted he was delighted to beat off competition for the signature of the 19-year-old.

"Danny is a fantastic signing for us, there was a lot of interest from other clubs in the division, so it is a testament to the set-up here that he opted to join us," Boothroyd told Coventry City's official website.

"He adds another option to the squad and he has the potential to get goals, so I am looking forward to working with him.

"Everyone saw what he was capable of during his spell with Swindon last season, and he will only get better, and we will get the benefit of that development, while he will benefit from being here."

Wanderers boss Owen Coyle is also pleased to have concluded a deal and hopes that the financial package for the Championship side will persuade them to play the youngster.

"The more Danny plays the more the fee is reduced," Coyle said.

"We are not putting him out to gain financially - we want him to come back a better player. Every time he plays the sum comes down by a substantial amount. I think it is very fair and so does Aidy."

Ward has gone straight into the Coventry squad to face Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime.
