With Jussi Jaaskelainen established as first-choice goalkeeper at Bolton, Ali Al Habsi insists he is happy to remain his understudy.

Al Habsi has made just 18 appearances for Bolton since his move from Lyn Oslo in January 2006, but despite his lack of opportunities he admits he is happy with his position at the Reebok Stadium.

"It is hard behind Jussi Jaaskelainen because he's one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League," Al Habsi told The Bolton News.

"It is disappointing for me that I haven't had more chances in the Carling Cup or the other cup games.

"When you are second choice with any club you look forward to at least playing in the cup games. This is what I need sometimes, yet I haven't had many chances recently.

"I have patience, I have respect for my club and respect for my contract and, in the end, it's the gaffer's choice who plays.

"I am happy here. Bolton is a fantastic football club, fantastic people to work with, and you never know in football. You never know what tomorrow brings."

The Oman international has three years remaining on his current deal at the club and is a regular for the reserves.
