Bolton boss Owen Coyle admitted he was pleased with his team after their 4-0 victory over Wigan Athletic.

Goals from Johan Elmander, Kevin Davies(pen), Fabrice Muamba and substitute Matt Taylor gave Wanderers the three points at the Reebok Stadium, putting eight points between themselves and the Premier League's bottom three, much to the delight of Coyle.

"When I took the job I believed I could keep Bolton in the league," Coyle told BBC Sport.

"The short-term aim was to do that. We have taken a step along that road.

"It (the match) was all about getting the three points. To get it on the back of an accomplished performance was terrific. I thought the players' desire and their hunger to get about the game and the quality they showed at times was very pleasing."

A clean sheet for Jussi Jaaskelainen means Bolton have now gone two months without conceding at home in the league, a factor which Coyle believes will make the Reebok a fortress.

"I pride myself on making sure we have a terrific home record," he said.

"In my tenure here we have lost one game and that was against Arsenal in my first match.

"This was a massive victory and gives us a bit of breathing space. That is all it does. We now have to focus on the games coming up and go and earn points."

Coyle will take his side to Goodison Park next weekend when Bolton are Everton's visitors.
