Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has admitted he would not stand in the way of Peter Reid should he wish to become the new manager of Bolton.

Reid is currently assistant to Pulis at the Britannia Stadium, but has been widely tipped to take the Reebok hotseat in the last 24 hours.

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Pulis confirmed an approach, if any, would have to go through the proper channels.

"If Peter came to me and said he wanted to be a manager again, there's no problem," he said.

"If people think there is something out there that was better for themselves, I would always go with them.

"I don't know about the speculation. If it's the case, I would be desperately disappointed if Peter doesn't speak to me first and Bolton didn't speak to this football club first."

Reid played for Bolton between 1974 and 1982 and still lives in the town. He is currently the bookmaker's favourite become the new Wanderers boss.
