Paul Jewell has played down speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job at Bolton.

Jewell was spotted in the crowd during Tuesday night's 2-2 draw with Hull City, but, despite being installed as the early favourite to replace Gary Megson, insists he was only at the game as a guest of the former Wanderers boss.

"I find it embarrassing as I was at the Hull game with my son as a guest of Gary," Jewell told The Daily Mail.

"There was no ulterior motive. I just thought it would be an interesting game to watch.

"I am not one of those managers who sits in the stands to be seen or to put any kind of pressure on other managers."

The former Wigan Athletic boss has been out of work for just over a year after leaving Derby County last December.
