Gary Megson thought his side played well, but was disappointed with the result as Bolton were held to a 2-2 draw by Tottenham Hotspur.

Wanderers were infront twice at the Reebok Stadium through goals from Ricardo Gardner and Kevin Davies, but were pegged back on both occasions meaning they had to settle for a point.

After the game, Megson admitted it was as good as his side had played in a long time, but admitted they needed to take all three points to cap a fine afternoon's work.

"I've never been as pleased with a team that I've managed, yet the way we went about our work from minute 1 to 94 should have won it," Megson told the club's official website.

"If you are playing against the array of attacking talent Tottenham have got and they string 12 passes together and Defoe lifts it into the top corner then you hold your hands up, but a hoof up to Crouch then a knockdown and a goal from a set-piece - that is supposedly the way we play. Yet our second goal is supposed to be the way Tottenham play!"

Despite the result, the Bolton boss thinks more performances like that will result in more points as the season progresses.

"I'm really pleased with the performance but I do think that in terms of the chances we had and the way we played I think we should have won regardless of who the opposition are.

"It is important that we keep the run going because October is a tough month. In September we picked up seven out nine points and it is vital to keep the momentum going."

Bolton return to action in a fortnight, when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford.
