Bolton boss Gary Megson has revealed Matt Taylor has agreed a new contract with the club.

Taylor was in incredible form for Wanderers last season, scoring 10 goals from midfield, putting him on the fringes of an England call-up.

Despite still having two years left to run on his current deal, Megson has moved to tie Taylor down to a new deal which will be signed upon the club's return from their pre-season tour of Germany and Holland.

"Matt's agreed to sign an extension to his contract, which he is pleased about, his family is pleased about, and obviously we are," Megson told The Bolton News.

"Matt's a southern lad, it's his first time up north and he loves it. He thinks he's become an honorary northerner by virtue of the fact he is buying a house here rather than just renting one.

"I don't think he can see any pigeon lofts from where his house is, but he seems to be happy here and he has done great for us.

"He scored 10 goals last season and is a big influence with his set-pieces and work-rate. Hopefully he can go from strength to strength."

Taylor joined Bolton from Premier League rivals Portsmouth in January 2008 for a fee of around £3.5million.
