Paul Robinson has explained his reasons for joining Bolton, with boss Gary Megson the main reason.

Megson was the man who took Robinson from Watford to West Bromwich Albion in 2003 and has remained a fan of the full-back since.

The 30-year-old has linked up with the rest of the squad at their Austrian training camp and admitted his delight at completing the season-long loan move.

"I'm glad that everything is sorted out and I can enjoy the new challenge that lies in front of me," Robinson told the club's official website.

"Obviously working with Gary before was a big plus and it wasn't a difficult decision to make. I know what he is like and how he can get the best out of me again as a player, so I had no hesitations in joining Bolton Wanderers.

"It is always nice when other football clubs show an interest in you and knowing the demands that Gary wants from his players, I believe that he will be able to drive me on."

Robinson admits the weekend move was tough on him, but is happy to be a part of the Wanderers squad.

"I got pulled out of West Brom's trip to Slovenia on Friday, drove up to Bolton for the medical on Saturday and then I flew out to meet all the players last night, so as you can tell it has been a pretty hectic few days," he said.

"They seem a great bunch of lads and having played against many of them before, it makes joining a new club much easier.

"I'm looking forward to speaking to them all and getting to find out what they are like as people not just footballers."

He is expected to challenge Jlloyd Samuel for the left-back position next season and admits he is relishing the challenge.

"Competition is part and parcel in football and nothing is easy when you sign for a new club because you have to work hard for your place in the team," he said.

"Jlloyd is a quality player and I look forward to that challenge. The Bolton fans know what they will get from me - I will give 100 percent commitment and hopefully help drive the team onto bigger things this coming season."
