Fabrice Muamba believes he is yet to hit his best form for Bolton and is looking to improve next season.

The former Arsenal and Birmingham midfielder joined Wanderers in a £5million deal last summer, but despite some early promising signs, failed to produce his top form on a regular basis.

The 21-year-old acknowledges his form hasn't been consistent enough and hopes to make an impact come the start of the new campaign.

"I'm sure people will point out that I have not hit the kind of form I showed in the opening game of the season," Muamba said.

"A lot of it is down to self-belief. I am very critical of myself but I am determined to learn from my first season here and come back fresher, stronger and better in pre-season.

"I have come through a lot in my life and all the things I have been through this season are just part of the game.

"Criticism is part of it. You just have to take it on the chin and move on.

"So long as I stay true to myself and work hard, I am sure I can come back next year and give a better account of myself. I feel I owe everyone that.

"I want to come back stronger because I want to be a part of this team."

Muamba played 45 minutes for England Under-21s on Monday night in a 7-0 victory over their Azerbaijan counterparts in Milton Keynes.
