Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish has turned down claims that Danny Shittu was offered to the club.

Last weekend, Blues managing director Karren Brady claimed the 28-year-old had been offered in a loan deal which could have been made permanent in the summer.

However, McLeish has gone against the words of Brady, claiming he was told the defender was not available.

"He (Shittu) wasn't offered to us on loan," McLeish told the Birmingham Mail.

"Gary Megson said he wasn't available. I think the MD was tongue-in-cheek.

"Certainly Gary ruled it out. I spoke to him personally. But I know the board said if he was available, they would do it."
