Bolton midfielder Mark Davies has been called up to the England Under-21 squad for the first time for next week's game with Ecuador.

Davies, who moved to Bolton from Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, impressed on his full debut against Tottenham at the weekend and has been rewarded for his fast rise up the football pyramid.

Speaking to TheFA.com, Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce explained his reasons for calling the 20-year-old up to his squad.

"We've brought in Mark Davies from Bolton. Franco Baldini saw him at the weekend and thought he was outstanding and he has played very well on loan at Leicester earlier in the season."

After coming through tht ranks at Molineux, Davies joined Leicester on loan at the start of the season and moved to the Reebok Stadium as a relative unknown for just £1million.

The call to the England Under-21 squad will come as a huge boost to the new Wanderers favourite, who was playing League 1 football less than two weeks ago.
