Jussi Jaaskelainen is set to make his 400th appearance for Bolton when they host Manchester City at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday.

The 33-year-old joined Bolton in November 1997 from Finnish side VPS Vaasa and quickly established himself as first choice between the sticks.

With injury striking Keith Branagan during the 1997/98 campaign, Jaaskelainen was a regular on the bench, with Gavin Ward taking deputising in goal.

The following season, Jaaskelainen became first choice at the club, making his debut in the opening day draw at Crystal Palace.

Since that day at Selhurst Park, the Finland international has gone on to record 399 appearances for the Trotters.

With his 400th due to come this weekend, current Wanderers boss Gary Megson has paid tribute to the club's longest serving player and goalkeeping coach Fred Barber.

"It's a great achievement and he has proved to be a fantastic signing by Colin Todd," Megson told the club's official website.

"Fred Barber, who is as good a goalkeeping coach as anyone in the country, has brought Jussi through and is doing the same with Ali Al Habsi.

"He's a very good goalkeeping coach and the people who work with him on a daily basis would bear testimony to that.

"But Jussi himself is a great lad, a great trainer and he is probably in the top three goalkeepers in the country."
