Bolton and Blackburn played out a goalless draw at the Reebok as both sides took a point from the Lancashire derby.

Neither goalkeeper had any real work to do all afternoon as goalscoring opportunities were few and far between, with only one shot on target all afternoon.

Johan Elmander started brightly for Bolton, forcing a couple of early corners which the home side failed to capitalise on.

Robbie Fowler, who has an excellent record against Bolton, made his first start for Blackburn, but superb defending from Gary Cahill and Andy O'Brien meant the former Liverpool man hardly saw the ball.

Matt Taylor went close to giving Wanderers the lead midway through the first half, but his cross shot free-kick was pushed round the post by Rovers keeper Paul Robinson.

Andy O'Brien went close for Bolton soon after, seeing his header flash past the far post following a Taylor corner.

But it was the visitors who went closest to breaking the deadlock before the break, as Carlos Villanueva fired a shot inches over the crossbar with Jussi Jaaskelainen beaten.

Spurred on by that chance, Blackburn continued to push men forward and should have taken the lead, but Jason Roberts somehow headed wide from inside the six yard box.

After the break, Andy O'Brien had another chance, but failed to connect with Taylor's corner as a goal looked likely.

With the introduction of Ricardo Gardner, Taylor was pushed out on to the right of Bolton's midfield and the change almost paid off immediately.

Receiving the ball out on the right, Taylor cut inside before curling the ball round Robinson, but saw his shot agonisingly clip the outside of the post.

Despite keeping the Rovers frontline quiet all afternoon, Paul Ince's side had two good chances to win the game late on, but Cahill was in superb form to deny substitutes Matt Derbyshire and Benni McCarthy.

As three minutes of injury time were completed, referee Howard Webb called time on a rather uneventful afternoon at the Reebok as the game ended goalless.
