Five of Bolton's internationals were in action for their respective countries during the week, with a mixed bag of results.

After missing the weekend defeat to Holland, Gretar Steinsson returned to the Iceland side, playing the whole 90 minutes as they ran out 1-0 winners over Macedonia.

Jamaica made it two wins in four days as they backed up their victory over Mexico with another 1-0 victory, this time over Honduras. Ricardo Gardner captained the side.

Russia beat Finland 3-0, with Jussi Jaaskelainen powerless to prevent the hosts taking all three points in their World Cup qualifier.

Loan signing Ebi Smolarek scored for Poland in their game against Slovakia, but two late goals from the home side meant they took all three points.

On Tuesday night, Fabrice Muamba came on as a substitute as England Under-21's booked their place in next summers European Championships with a 2-2 draw with Wales at Villa Park.

Stuart Pearce's side won the tie 5-4 on aggregate to progress.
