Bolton boss Gary Megson is hoping to keep Jussi Jaaskelainen at the club and will open talks shortly.

Jaaskelainen, 33, is out of contract next month and is currently free to talk to other clubs regarding a free transfer.

However, it seems interest may have dropped because of a back injury that kept him out of the final two months of the season.

That injury was Ali Al Habsi's gain. After waiting over two years for a Premier League appearance he was thrown in and at times performed heroics to help keep Bolton in the top flight.

Peter Harrison, agent of both Jaaskelainen and Al Habsi has admitted Wanderers are keen to re-open talks about the Finn.

"Wanderers want to speak to me about Jussi so we will have to wait and see," Harrison told the Manchester Evening News.

"It's a bit early to say though I am talking to other clubs about him."

Jaaskelainen was a surprise inclusion in the Bolton squad on Sunday, but he was an unused substitute at Stamford Bridge.

However, he may be tempted to move on as the impressive form of Al Habsi deserves regular first-team football.

The Oman international had to be patient for a run in the team but knows he was second to one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

"Jussi had been at the club 10 years and was one of the best keepers in the league. But I think I did well and kept four clean sheets.

"I hope I get more chances next season to be first choice and I have one more year on my contract."
