Antoine Sibierski has revealed that he chose to sign for Wigan over Bolton because of the ambition of the club.

The Frenchman turned down a new one-year contract at Newcastle and left the club this week.

Both Bolton and Wigan made an offer to Sibierski and after speaking to both clubs, the striker signed a two-year contract with the Latics.

Wigan had earlier signed Titus Bramble, who also left Newcastle after Sam Allardyce decided to release him at the end of his deal

Sibierski has revealed that it wasn't easy to turn Bolton down, but admits that the potential of Wigan is what swayed his final decision.

"I feel we have got great things to do. I signed for Wigan not just because it's a two-year contract near Manchester where I still live.

"It's because I felt Wigan can improve and do better than last season.

"Bolton was definately a temptation and I thought about that all day yesterday.

"It wasn't an easy decision. Wigan is in the same situation Bolton was in three or four years ago, and that's a bigger and an exciting challenge."
