After coming through the club's academy ranks, Joey O'Brien made his Bolton debut in a League Cup tie at Yeovil Town in 2004.

He initially took the role of right-back, before being moved into his favoured midfield position where he became a regular in the side.

However, a series of knee injuries put a stop to his development and he spent more than a year out of the game.

In October 2009, he signed a new contract at the Reebok Stadium which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2011.
