Bolton's hopes of loaning Jack Wilshere have been dashed after Arsenal vowed to give him a chance to prove himself.

Wilshere spent the second half of last season on loan at the Reebok Stadium, winning many admirers after a string of impressive displays.

At just 18-years of age, he is widely tipped for a bright future in the game and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger insists he will give Wilshere the chance to shine during pre-season before making a decision on his future.

"At the moment, I want Jack to gain experience and, if possible, at Arsenal," Wenger said. "I will give him a chance to play now.

"I want to see if he can integrate with the first team. Of course, I will make that decision later. Ideally, it is better that he gains experience with us.

"I am a bit keen not to create too much hype around the young English players. They need to work hard and we have outstanding English talent."

Wilshere made 14 appearances during his loan spell at the Reebok and scored one goal.
