Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill has denied speculation linking David Nugent to Bolton.

Reports suggest Wanderers boss Owen Coyle is keen on signing the striker, who he worked with at Burnley last season, with Nicky Hunt and Danny Shittu possibly heading the other way.

Cotterill, however, has rejected the speculation, taking a swipe at Bolton in the process.

"I haven't had any phone calls from Bolton and I don't anticipate getting any," Cotterill told Portsmouth News.

"David Nugent is happy to stay here. Besides, we can't afford to lose any more players.

"There has already been a situation where Nicky Hunt has been offered to us and I've said 'no' because I have somebody else in mind.

"I am also already working on a situation for a centre-half, so I don't know where the Shittu and Hunt speculation has come from.

"Maybe they are two guys Bolton want out of the way. But we are not about taking some other team's players they don't want just because it suits them.

"We are quite happy with David Nugent and he's happy to be here."
