Marcos Alonso has revealed that the prospect of playing in the Premier League was the reason he swapped Real Madrid for Bolton.
The 19-year-old is highly rated in his native Spain and made his debut for Real Madrid in a 2-0 win over Racing Santander in April.
He signed a three-year contract with Wanderers in Tuesday and believes leaving the nine time European champions was the right decision for his career.
"I have good examples in the family of how to work hard when you are young and then reach the top and become a good footballer," Alonso told the club's official website.
"My Grandfather won five European Cups and there are medals all over his house. My father reached a European final as well, so it is great experience for me to learn about their history.
"My father is very happy with Bolton and he has good feelings about the club and that was a reason why I decided to sign.
"I've have heard a lot about the club in Spain because Spanish players have played here before. I know that it is a very good club and the game that the fans look forward to is against Manchester United.
"At Real Madrid it is very hard to jump into the first-team, so the best way to reach the top was to come to another team. I think that the Premier League is the best league in the world and my feelings were that Bolton was a really good option, so here I am.
"I am very happy with what the manager has said because he told me that I will be very comfortable here, so I am looking forward to playing."
Alonso is currently recovering from an ankle injury picked up at the end of last season but should be fit to resume full training by the start of next week.
