MEITE HITS BACK IN MEGSON ROW - Friday 28th March 2008
Abdoulaye Meite insists he is fully committed to Bolton despite his recent falling out with manager Gary Megson.
Megson claimed the Ivory Coast international defender refused to play the second half of Bolton's defeat to Manchester United, a move which upset both players and staff.
But Meite, who moved to Bolton under former manager Sam Allardyce nearly two years ago, says reports have been taken out of context and he didn't mean any offence to the club.
"I would never refuse to play without justification," said Meite.
"We were at Old Trafford, every player wants to play there but I was struggling in the first half and genuinely felt I would be more of a hindrance if I carried on.
"I told the manager this but he obviously didn't believe me, yet it was proven because we kept a clean sheet in the second half.
"I was surprised and hurt that it was portrayed this way."
"I am proud to play for Bolton and have pride in my performance. I want the fans to know I will give my all.
"They can have total confidence in me as can my team-mates that I will do everything to get us out of trouble.
"I am fully concentrated on helping us stay in The Premier League should the manager choose to select me again."
Meite was left out of the squad which lost to Manchester City last weekend, but it is yet to be seen whether or not he will feature against Arsenal.
